Connect Over The Internet Using pcAnywhere

Setting up a “Host PC” to call a “Remote PC" via a "Network" connection:

  1. Connect to the Internet and launch pcAnywhere.
  2. Determine and make note of which version you are using by selecting About pcAnywhere from the drop down Help menu.
  3. Display the Enter Names or IP Addresses of TCP/IP Hosts to Search For window.
    • v.8   From the File menu, select Application Options, then click on the TCP/IP tab.
    • v.9   From the Tools menu, select Network Options, then click on the TCP/IP tab.
    • v.10/10.5   From the Tools menu, select Options, then click on the Remote Communications tab.
  4. Under Enter Names or IP Addresses of TCP/IP Hosts to Search For, input the IP address provided by your CLS technician. Click on Add. Click on Apply, then on OK.
  5. Click on the Be a Host PC button in versions 8 or 9; click on the Host button in versions 10 or 10.5.
  6. Right-click on the NETWORK connection icon (versions 10 and 10.5 refer to this item as NETWORK, CABLE, DSL), and select Call Remote.
  7. A window will appear requesting the selection of an IP address.
    • v.8/9   Select the address entered in step 4. If you’ve used pcAnywhere prior to this session, a list of previously entered IP addresses will appear; simply select the correct one from the list.
    • v.10/10.5   Oddly, the IP address entered above in step 4 is not displayed here in these versions. Retype — or copy and paste — the address into the window’s text field.
  8. Click OK.
